Based on my own experience, using an SDR with a non-RTL2832U solution is preferable, or you can modify it yourself to run on battery power.
I've tried several SDRs based on the RTL2832U, and I consistently experience power supply ripple issues when connecting them to a laptop USB or a phone. This issue isn't simply resolved by disconnecting; it requires at least half an hour of operation before the power supply stabilizes again.
I looked at the circuit diagrams of those devices, and they all used a 5V USB power supply directly connected to an AMS1117-3.3V voltage regulator. This type of power supply cannot handle the ripple, which results in regular, sharp peaks on the spectrum graph, and also causes the spectrum to shift. The location of these peaks doesn't move, so it has little impact on receiving data from systems like GMRS or amateur radio. However, it does affect the reception of APRS, NOAA, and SSTV data, which require machine decoding.
Subsequently, I disconnected the input of the AMS1117 and instead connected two strings of lithium batteries to eliminate the problem.
If you don't want to go through all the hassle, just get the HackRF portable H2. It has much higher playability, and if possible, you can also use the H3.
