In the era when internet communication was not well-developed, some long-range ships would be equipped with weather fax receivers (of course, they still exist today) to receive weather fax charts from coastal stations and analyze and predict sea weather conditions. Although information technology is now advanced and it is no longer difficult to obtain marine weather information, shortwave weather faxes can still play a very important role in certain special situations.
