If you only have a few to do, you can use pliers to clamp them together and then solder them.
The welding strength is actually quite good, but the efficiency isn't very high. If you are only doing a small number of welds, you can ignore this issue.
Also, why not try using an XT60 connector? It's a very useful and well-regarded domestic product.
