After obtaining my license, I used the FT-891 to make two contacts from the field (which I considered a sort of "field day"). I also identified several points of confusion.
1. Currently, I have a homemade 5.6m pull-down GP antenna that can reach up to 20m. The ground plane consists of four 5m lengths of thin wire. With a 14MHz carrier wave, the SWR can be adjusted to 1.2:1. However, when receiving on 891 kHz, the SWR typically appears between 5 and 7:1. When transmitting, it is usually below 1.5:1.
2. The 21MHz and 28MHz carrier frequencies were unable to be maintained at levels 3 and 4, which suggests a problem with the terrestrial network. Was this caused by the terrestrial network, or is there another reason?
3. All of these were set up on weekends in the afternoon, and I could hear other stations transmitting, but I couldn't always make out what they were saying due to a lot of noise. I was able to hear stations from Shandong, Hebei, and even Jiangsu, all from within Harbin. Is this because the antennas are located in urban areas?
4.891 "15W" CQ - No reception detected.
5. 891, are there any specific settings on the machine that are particularly important or could improve connectivity? The machine is used and hasn't been modified much, so I haven't made any changes.
