I recently released a new firmware for the UV-K1/UV-K5 series, and I wanted to share it with everyone. The main focus of this release is adding CW and digital mode transmission capabilities to the UV-K1/UV-K5 V3. Once installed, along with software on your computer, you can use the radio to transmit FT8 and other digital modes. This is not just a"Theoretically possible."In this stage, I have successfully completed an FT8 QSO with a local friend using this firmware and verified that the transmit and receive links are working.
The firmware includes a set of high-precision frequency control engines that can overcome the original 10 Hz step limit of the handheld radio, meeting the requirements for frequency accuracy in modes such as FT8. The computer version comes with three pre-built graphical interface tools for audio tracking, manual testing, and WSJT-X full automatic transmission and reception. The release includes a compiled .exe file that can be downloaded and used immediately. It is recommended to use the AIOC (All-in-One Cable) together, which allows you to manage both serial port and audio with a single cable. The tools will automatically recognize it.
In addition to the K1/K5 V3, the firmware for UV-K5 V1 has also been developed and released separately. The software interface is fully compatible, and further improvements will continue. All code and algorithms are completely open source, allowing anyone to freely develop further.
