Currently, I'm using a 20-meter end-fed antenna mounted between the two elevator shafts in the building. The daily noise level is S9. I'm considering installing a vertical antenna on the roof, but I haven't decided on the best type of support pole. I would appreciate any suggestions you have.
Since I plan to use two handles to create a V-shape, adjusting the handle length would be necessary when switching frequency bands. Therefore, using a single 6-meter galvanized steel pipe (DN50) or a 6-meter lamppost is too inconvenient for adjustment. If I were to use a 3-meter DN50 water pipe and then insert a slightly longer 40mm diameter water pipe inside it, that would also work. However, I would need someone to drill holes and thread the smaller pipe for securing it. Once the screws are loosened, the antenna can be lowered, reaching a height of 3 meters. With a ladder, it would be easy to adjust the antenna.
Later, I realized that using two 3-meter-long 4040 aluminum profiles could achieve a height adjustment from 3 meters to 6 meters by using connecting pieces. Does the strength of the aluminum profile seem adequate? Because I don't plan on permanently fixing it, I'm worried that strong winds could cause the pull-out rods to break and injure people. Instead, I considered only installing the pull-out rods when setting up the stand, raising the antenna. If the positive V noise is significantly improved, I will then consider installing a permanent 750V support structure.
Are there any other affordable and effective support rods that you can recommend?
Appendix: My rooftop environment (The photo was taken when I built a DIY, low-cost GP antenna. It didn't include a ground plane; instead, I used the angle iron beneath my solar water heater to create a ground mesh, and it still works reasonably well.)
