The audio routing in PipeWire on Linux is truly amazing. I can now run my ICOM IC-705 and SDR simultaneously, using two JTDX radios to monitor different frequency bands. By connecting the audio directly through Crosspipe, I can send different incoming audio streams to different JTDX radios, and send outgoing audio to its intended destination, without any interference between the different lines. If you use software like Sunshine, you can also connect and change the specific audio lines you want to monitor directly.
All of this is free and open-source software, such as common Debian or Ubuntu Linux distributions, which are ready to use out of the box after installation.
I have been using this setup for over six months in FT8, and last month I showcased the equipment's application in amateur radio at the developer day event organized by Risa. I successfully made contact with several nearby stations.
Recently, I was again affected by the "boomerang" effect of machine performance. Just a few days ago, when there was a surge in 6m band transmissions, decoding over 50 messages required almost 5 seconds, which significantly impacted communication.
