On December 1, 1924, the 200-kilowatt Alexanderson generator (call sign "SAQ") began commercial operation, providing telegraph communication between Sweden and the United States. One hundred years later, this transmitter remained the only intact electromechanical transmitter from that era, and it was still in operation. On Wednesday, December 24, 2025, the eve of Christmas, the transmitting station planned to broadcast traditional Christmas messages worldwide using a 17.2 kHz CW signal.
