Let me share my thoughts.
SWL has always been an essential part of amateur radio, and many HAMs start with SWL. Especially after entering the shortwave world, SWL equipment that only includes receiving functions is much more affordable than similar transmitting/receiving devices, making it more friendly for beginners and "safer."
Becoming an SWLer doesn't necessarily require purchasing a "radio" with transmitting capabilities; all you need is a receiver, even some SSB receivers (such as certain products from Deng Sheng). Theoretically, an SWLer doesn't even need to obtain a license or apply for a radio license (it is strongly recommended that individuals study and obtain a license).
Many radio manufacturers also have a "Receivers" category under the "Amateur" product range. Receivers are quite popular among HAM enthusiasts, with models like the R71E, as well as newer models such as the R10, R20, R30, DV10, and many other receivers that originated from "TV sticks" or "domestic SDR devices."
These devices are not appropriate to be classified under the "radio" category. Should the community consider establishing a separate "receiver" category, rather than excluding them simply because they lack amateur radio transmission capabilities?
I also hope that the community management team can consider these devices holistically, providing new users with a broader perspective and more choices.
