I passed the B exam in September of this year, using the last batch of the old question bank. Currently, my setup consists of a XieGu G90S (20W machine, previously held a 14W license), and a portable vertical antenna (4-meter pole, 5.6-meter pull-out). In practice, I use 14W power (there's not much difference between 14W and 20W; 14W can also connect to 20W, but not vice versa), and I have used it on several occasions with good results. As a new B licensee, my impressions are:(1)When you're just starting out with shortwave radio, it's best not to focus on low power and portability.(2)Antenna>The equipment should ideally use antennas that do not require external tuning. Secondly, it's best to allow the antenna to resonate naturally without using an external tuner, and to maximize the antenna's efficiency as much as possible.
