I'm using the UV5RH Pro. I had this feeling before, but later I found that it was actually the screws on the back of the device getting hot when transmitting. To determine if it's RF burns, you can try holding (AC) current meter with one hand and then touching the other end to the battery while transmitting to see if it works.
Previously, my shortwave radio and house were very tightly coupled, and I would get burned when using the switch. I could measure a current of 1A.
