The first time I set up a wireless network, it was quite complicated. The cables were all tangled together like spiderwebs.
The aunt selling toys next to me told me to move the cable further away, probably because she was worried someone would trip over it.
Adjust the tuning knob to match the antenna parameters, with a VSWR of less than 1.5 at 20m, and a center frequency of 14.079 (which is not perfectly accurate – even slight adjustments to the center frequency push it outside the amateur radio band), leaving the remaining fine-tuning to the antenna tuner.
The foldable tables and stools are very useful, much more comfortable than sitting on the ground like last time. I really like them!👍
This was lucky; I managed to complete 6 QSOs in about 2 hours, while operating from a local market environment on the 20m band. Sending QSL cards!😋
This time, I also brought along the software for trying FT8, but the software wasn't set up properly on my laptop, and it was completely unusable. I only managed to connect and make a very basic contact before giving up (the software is JTDX HF Community).
Summary
1. Different antennas have their own advantages. The new GP antenna did indeed improve transmission efficiency in SSB mode, but it was not suitable for FT8 when frequently changing frequencies. In this case, the random line antenna that the original poster bought for 400 RMB was more advantageous.
2. When there are powerful radio stations transmitting, my CQ (calls) rarely receive a response (and even if I do receive a response, I may not be able to hear it).
3. During this event, I heard the HK radio station VR2ZYR calling CQ DX. He mentioned using a 2-element Yagi antenna, and the signal strength to my location (Haikou, Hainan) was excellent. However, I still couldn't make contact.
He responded to 河北电台 (Hebei Radio), and their signals were both very clear.
I don't know which direction his antenna is pointing, but if it's facing north, then why do I also have good signal? It seems strange.
