Regarding the BaoFeng 5RH PRO V2 upgrade（APRS）Some firmware shares

I wrote this post because a while ago, I bought a BaoFeng 5RH PRO at the seafood market for 60 yuan. The seller said that the device wouldn't turn on and I couldn't access the system.

After receiving the device, press the "*" key + PTT + power button to reset the radio and successfully turn it on. Simple functionality test confirms that it is working correctly.

Start upgrading the firmware

The firmware update and tutorial come from a blog post by an amateur radio operator (HAM). I will not repeat the content or the firmware itself; you can find it yourself if needed.

Well! Obviously, my upgrade wasn't successful, otherwise I wouldn't have written this post.
When I upgraded the firmware according to the tutorial, I received a "communication failure" message. Initially, I thought it was a problem with the cable, but upgrading to version V1_1_04 was successful, which indicates that the upgrade environment is not the issue! Therefore, the problem must be with the radio itself!

After experimentation and consultation with BaoFeng Liang, I concluded that this firmware only supports hardware version V1\_0\_4. My radio's hardware version is V1\_0\_0.

The process of gathering information took a long time, and I only had about 1-2 hours free each day. Therefore, it lasted for approximately one week.
Ultimately, I found a Ham operator in the US (K4FZN) on Facebook who reverse-engineered the firmware upgrade program into a Python script.

This is his GitHub repository, which contains all the information for the 5RH PRO, as well as the software he modified himself.

The upgrade program is fw\_updater.py. If you also have a 5RH PRO with firmware version V1\_0\_0 that needs to be upgraded, then this program is for you.
You only need to comment out lines 365-376 containing the validation code, and then you can successfully upgrade. Remember to write the dictionary after a successful upgrade.

The APRS signal from firmware V2_0_9 was successfully transmitted and forwarded by the gateway, according to testing.
However, there's a bug: the screen brightness level and the V1 firmware version are reversed, which causes the backlight to remain on.

I successfully flashed the device using the tools provided in the BaoFeng Facebook group. I couldn't figure out the Python script, and his logic is that it doesn't flash the hardware version first, but instead upgrades to v2 through software, which then sets the hardware version to 1_0_4.
The tool's name is: BF\_5RH\_Pro\_Tools\_v2.zip, and I was told that it can be easily downgraded or upgraded.
Use the built-in Firmware Tool to upgrade the firmware directly.
Simply re-add it to the dictionary.
