I. Background for enabling repeater stations
On June 28, 2025, at 11:56:17 (UTC), the amateur radio repeater BR5AI, operated by the Zhejiang Province Amateur Radio Association, was successfully installed and put into operation. This repeater fills a gap in coverage that has existed in Hangzhou city for over ten years, providing stable and efficient communication support for amateur radio enthusiasts throughout the city and surrounding areas.
II. Acknowledgements
The operation of this repeater, from equipment procurement and frequency application to installation, debugging, and signal testing, was made possible through technical support and resource assistance from the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Economy and Information Technology, the Hangzhou City Radio Management Bureau, members of the provincial association, and enthusiastic amateur radio enthusiasts.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all participating organizations and individuals!
III. Principles of Repeater Service
1. Equal Service: Provides free and equal communication services to all enthusiasts holding legitimate radio licenses, strictly prohibiting commercial use or discriminatory practices.
2. Emergency Support: In situations involving natural disasters, public emergencies, or other legally defined emergency scenarios, prioritize the communication needs of those involved and comply with the unified dispatching instructions issued by the relevant authorities.
3. Compliance Management: The repeater station operates under the supervision of the relevant radio management authority, and all communication records are retained for future reference in accordance with legal requirements.
IV. Technical Specifications and Usage Instructions
Repeater callsign: BR5AI
Received frequency: 145.400 MHz (downlink)
Transmitting frequency: 144.800 MHz (uplink)
Sub-audio: 88.5 Hz
Essential features for accessing a repeater: C4FM/FM dual-mode compatibility.
Operating Instructions:
Before use, please ensure that your personal radio license is valid and that unauthorized devices are not connected.
To activate the repeater, you must transmit a sub-audible tone (88.5 Hz).
When using handheld devices in urban environments, antenna sizes in the 2 GHz band need to be relatively large (theoretically, approximately 52 cm, which is about 1/4 wavelength) to achieve ideal communication performance.
V. Important Notes
1. During parameter optimization, the repeater is in trial operation mode. Subsequent adjustments to parameters or power may be made based on signal coverage and interference conditions. Any changes will be announced 72 hours in advance via the association's official WeChat account, except in emergency situations.
2. Service interruption notice: Any service interruptions due to scheduled maintenance, remote restarts (as required by management), or equipment repairs will not be individually notified. It is recommended to avoid relying on a single repeater in emergency situations.
3. Privacy and Compliance: It is strictly prohibited to transmit sensitive information, encrypted content, or engage in non-ham radio communications; repeater conversations may be recorded, including audio recordings, and subject to inspection by the relevant authorities. Please do not disclose personal information.
VI. Feedback Channels: If you experience interference from a repeater, technical issues, or have suggestions for improvement, please provide feedback through the following channels:
Hotline: 15257120579, 18067990910 (Please call during business hours, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, thank you!)
VII. Collaborative Initiative: "One World, One Ham" – Please cooperate in adhering to the "Amateur Radio Regulations," and refrain from malicious frequency grabbing, offensive communications, and other behaviors that disrupt a fair and orderly communication environment.
The continued operation of repeaters depends on the self-discipline and support of every amateur radio enthusiast!
