My equipment is an FT891, and I've made my own audio cable. When used with a laptop computer, it works normally in DATA mode for FT8 communication. However, since the laptop is being used for other purposes, I want to try using my phone instead.
My phone is Android, with a Type-C port and OTG functionality, as well as a built-in 3.5mm audio jack. FT8CN can be used normally to receive audio through an audio cable and decode it.
After manually adjusting the app and radio frequency synchronization, I clicked on the small speaker in the top right corner to open CQ. However, the radio was not outputting any sound, and neither was the phone's speaker. When I unplugged the audio cable, the audio that I needed to transmit started playing normally from the phone's speaker.
This means that the audio from my phone wasn't being transmitted to the radio, or that the radio couldn't be started.
I've seen many people online using Type-C to 3.5mm adapter cables to connect to radio audio lines, which allows them to use the radio normally. I also borrowed one to test, but my phone cannot output and receive audio through the C port via the adapter cable.
I'm not sure if it's a problem with my phone or if there's an issue with the settings somewhere.
The radio settings are as follows:
- USB mode
- Baud rate: 9600
- VOX: Turn on
- VOX Select: DATA
FT8CN settings:
- Control mode: VOX
- Baud rate: 9600
- Model selection: YAESU/FT891（USB）
