It seems many people are using APRS with RTLSDR, but this device is ultimately a specialized piece of hardware that will eventually be discontinued. The price of the 2832U has also become very inflated. Recently, some foreign users have been utilizing the high-speed clock output of the RP2040, combined with traditional radio equipment like Tayloe QSD receivers to capture signals up to 30MHz, using only analog switches and amplifiers. As APRS is primarily used in the VHF band, it reminds me of how TV front-end receivers were commonly used in the past for receiving VHF/UHF signals, with a center frequency around 36MHz-38MHz. Could this be achieved through filtering? If so, a SDR device that is difficult for chip vendors to control would emerge, which seems like a feasible approach.
