Recently, telegram services have been quite popular. This reminded me of something, so I looked through old photos and found it: In 2015, I obtained a Japanese-authored directory for Japanese people living in the US. One advertisement was for "NIPPON DENPO SERVICE," a company run by Japanese people in Hawaii that provided telegram services from the US to Japan (primarily formal telegrams). They used the term "telegram," which likely refers to communication via international internet plus domestic postal services. Sending one telegram cost around $20 at the time. Now, this company's website no longer offers this service, but you can still find their archived page.
