IOTA (Islands On The Air), which literally translates to "islands in the air," is also known as a virtual island, and is the most active of the three TA projects within China.
Founded in 1964, it facilitates radio communication with radio stations located on islands around the world, thereby enriching the experience of all active amateur radio operators. It achieves this by leveraging the widespread mystique surrounding islands. It is managed in partnership between Islands On The Air (IOTA) Ltd (referred to as IOTA Management here) and the British Association for Radio Amateurs （RSGB）.
The IOTA management department divides the islands of the world into approximately 1200 "IOTA groups." Due to geographical reasons, the number of "counters" (i.e., eligible islands) within each group varies, and these lists are published on the IOTA directory and the IOTA website. For those pursuing IOTA islands, the goal is to establish radio contact with at least one counter from as many of these groups as possible. For those activating IOTA islands, it involves providing this connection. The plan has a strong rule structure. The IOTA management department encourages friendly competition among pursuers by publishing detailed performance data of participants on the honor board and in the annual list, as well as by awarding certificates and awards.
Among these, China has 19 islands (island groups) listed in the iota Island list.

POTA (Parks on the Air)
It began in early 2017, when the ARRL's National Parks on the Air special event concluded. A group of volunteers wanted to continue enjoying the activity for a year after the event ended, and so POTA was born.
Taking IOTA as an example, POTA aims to encourage communication with amateur radio stations located in parks around the world.
Currently, no parks in mainland China and Hong Kong are participating in this project.

SOTA (Summit on the Air), Mountain Communications
As the name suggests, it involves communicating with radio stations located on mountains around the world.
Summit On The Air (SOTA) is a project originally organized by amateur radio enthusiasts in the UK, with the aim of establishing global communication from mountain summits. Participants can log their SOTA contacts on the official website to earn points, but not all mountains qualify as SOTA summits. They must meet certain criteria, so each country needs an OM (ham radio operator) to initiate and act as a local SOTA administrator, collecting summit information and submitting applications to the UK authorities for formal registration of the summits on the SOTA website.
