Let's discuss some of the issues I encountered when installing a Bluetooth module in my K5 recently.
1: Because the Bluetooth signal is very poor due to being enclosed in a shielding case, frequent reboots and frequency programming often result in disconnection (solution: solder a wire from the Bluetooth module's antenna to draw it out, place it in the USB-C charging port position, make sure the wire does not break through the skin and contact any metal on the radio). In my case, the wire made contact with ground (the metal casing), causing the Bluetooth module to overload, which not only burned the module but also damaged the radio's RF management chip.
2: After installing the Bluetooth module, the K-port can no longer be used with the write-enable line. However, the headphones are unaffected. When powered on, version 1.3 of the walkie-talkie will briefly illuminate a blue light for a few seconds, but versions 1.5/1.6 will not. (Theoretically, adding a diode to both TX and RX legs could solve this, but I haven't found suitable diodes. I have not tested this, or waited for experts to develop firmware with a Bluetooth power switch and identify an unused GPIO pin.)
3: The official writing software first connects to the virtual port via Bluetooth, so there are no other issues besides a slightly slower write/read speed. This applies to the firmware companion software for computer control as well, which also requires connecting to the port first. CHIRI and other similar writing software generally fail to connect or show progress bars that only advance one step at a time. Furthermore, when flashing firmware, the software can successfully connect to the port initially but then disconnect later. This often results in a failed flash with a success rate of less than 70%.
4. I tested the following Bluetooth module models: HC-04/HC-06/HC-08/HM-10/HM-12/CP11 from Da Xia Long Que, and I disassembled the slave module for experimentation.😂
5: I still plan to add an external Bluetooth module, and I've purchased a three-mode Bluetooth module with the model number JDY67, which is also quite affordable.
