Friend Tai suggested re-posting this on the forum. This is for Tesla Model Y owners (2021 models) and includes a complete guide to installing an amateur radio, along with the necessary materials. The proposed method focuses on non-destructive installation.
1. Secure the nose
I chose the "LeDe" phone holder, which is specifically designed for Tesla. It's very secure. I had also seen others using 3M double-sided tape to attach theirs, but I always felt a little uneasy about it. After considering several options, I finally decided to use this phone holder. Just a note: this holder comes with both single-arm and dual-arm versions. Since the single-arm version is sufficient, you don't need the magnetic head.

Once the bracket arrives, you'll need to use a drill to create an M5 hole for securing the head. Please note that there is a small Allen wrench inside the bracket arm; be careful not to hit it while drilling. The image below shows the result after drilling the hole.

Then, buy an M5 screw for the Yaesu M5 handle (the size of the mounting hole on my equipment, a Yaesu 500DR, may be different depending on the device), which should match the size of the screws that come with the radio. It should be slightly longer.

2、 The host must be fixed in place.
For the host, I'm using a storage box under the seat, placed under the right front seat. You can find many of these on Taobao; just choose one with a hard material and then drill holes for installation. You can also drill holes on the sides to make it easier to run power cables and data cables.



3、 Cable installation
The power outlet and ashtray are designed to fit neatly within the console, and thanks to Tesla's rugged style, the cover won't press down on the power cord when closed.


Regarding power consumption, you don't need to worry about that either. I tested it with a power supply, and whether it was in U-segment or V-segment mode, the current at 50W high power transmission was around 10A. Tesla can handle up to 12A, and a maximum of 16A. This is because I am one of the earliest owners of the 2021 model, the "Atom" version, with a 12V battery. After upgrading Teslas with AMD chips, they all upgraded to smaller lithium batteries at 16V, which needs to be noted. (Some users also said that some radio stations have wider input voltages, so it's not a problem.)


The separation line and the feed lines are both located under the pad, making them almost invisible.




The antenna I'm using is the Diamond AZ506 soft version, which weighs about 80g and is quite lightweight. It's a coaxial connector type. The feed line is 5 meters long, which is just right. The feed line is 5-2 (Previously, another user mentioned using a thicker feed line, which resulted in water entering the trunk).
