Park introduction:
The Great Banyan Tree Ancestral Shrine, located in Hongdong County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province, China, is a historical and culturally rich tourist destination.
As the ancestral homeland and sacred site for overseas Chinese, the Hongdong Big Banyan Tree in Shanxi Province carries the historical memories and emotional connections of the Chinese people. The "Root Seeking and Ancestral Worship Park" at the Big Banyan Tree, with its unique cultural landscape and historical significance, has witnessed the changes and struggles of the Chinese people throughout history. Every year, it attracts countless overseas Chinese to return to their homeland to seek their roots and pay respects to their ancestors.
Considering the park's multifaceted nature, encompassing cultural, historical, and natural landscapes, it offers amateur radio enthusiasts and visitors from around the world a chance to experience the profound depth of traditional Chinese culture and learn about its preservation and development.
The POTA (Parks on The Air) amateur radio activity group has decided to designate the Hongdong Grand Old Tree Scenic Area, granting it the first park number in the BY region.

Carved wooden door
"The Root Carving Gate" is the main entrance to the Ancestral Tree Memorial Park, featuring a design based on the roots of the ancient tree. It spans 20 meters east-west and stands 13 meters high. Its design is old, solemn, majestic, and powerful, with strong, winding roots that symbolize the descendants of the ancient tree sharing a common ancestry, origin, and purpose. It represents the sacrifices made by the descendants of the ancient tree in order to contribute to the prosperity and greatness of the nation, as well as their tireless efforts and struggles. This gate embodies the shared roots and hometown of the descendants, which is the soul of the ancient tree.
Root shadow on the wall
The image of the "Root" character, a large and powerful example of calligraphy, is a landmark feature of the park. It conveys a deep sense of nostalgia and longing for home, capturing the complex feelings of those returning to their homeland.
Stele Pavilion (at the site of the ancient banyan tree)
The stele is built on the site of the first-generation giant tree, measuring one zhang and five feet in height, with a width of four chi and some inches. The top of the stele features inscriptions in seal script reading "Memorial" within the intricate carvings of the Panlong design, while the body of the stele uses the yang jian technique to carve five characters in regular script: "At the site of the ancient giant tree."
