Note: This document describes the online exam process in text format, using the AD4VE team's workflow under GLAARG VEC as an example. Other VEC/VE teams may have different exam processes; please refer to the instructions provided by your VE at the examination site for specific details.
- Introduction by VE members, introducing their call sign and current location. (Keywords: introduce ourselves)
- Verify your identification (keyword: government-issued photo ID).
- Room environment scan: You need to perform a 360-degree scan of the room's walls and also scan your desk, the area under your desk, and the ceiling. If you are using a physical calculator, demonstrate to VE that you have cleared the memory at this step. (Keywords: 360 degree, desk, where your feet are located, ceiling) (Calculator related: clear memory)
- Share your Zoom desktop and check your taskbar (keywords: green button, share your desktop, taskbar)
- (Optional) Use the built-in calculator (You can also use your own scientific calculator, as long as you can prove to VE that the memory has been cleared.) (Keywords: Do you need a calculator?)
- Open your browser and go to exam.tools, click "Join Exam Session". VE will guide you to enter the Team Identifier (usually using a standard alphabetical code) and your personal PIN code. Click "Join Exam Sessions", and VE will authorize you to join.
- Verify that your personal information is correct and click the "Start Exam" button on the page.
- Once you've been authorized by VE, they will guide you on how to use the exam system (including page-turning methods and answer submission), and then instruct you to close your camera and microphone after wishing you good luck (however, candidates are required to keep their cameras and microphones open throughout the exam).
- After completing the quiz, click "grade exam" and wait for VE authorization. Then you will be able to see your results immediately.
- (If you are not taking the Amateur Extra exam), VE will ask if you want to continue to the next level or end and sign, simply answer according to your actual situation.
11(a). If you choose to continue, repeat step 8 of the questionnaire process, but this time VE will not explain how to use the software.
11(b). If you choose to end, you will be directed to the signature page. First, it checks whether the identity information is correct, and then reviews the drafts of the two tables: NCVEC Form-605 and
CSCE, verify that the information within is correct.
- Once you have verified the information, enter your English name (with the first name before the last name) in the input field and sign below (you can write whatever you want; it doesn't necessarily need to be neat, as long as the system allows you to proceed to the next step).
- Click "Finish Session" to end the exam and then click "Log Out" again to disconnect from this session.
- Wait for the FCC to process your application and pay the fee to the FCC. You can use credit cards, ACH (Automated Clearing House), or wire transfers to make payments (if there is interest, I can explain how to pay in the next article).
