Since acquiring the IC-705, I've been wondering how to use a headset for SSB operation on the radio. This is based on my previous experience using Yaesu FT-857D headset adapters.
So, I thought the IC-705 could also be used with a headset microphone, but the IC-705's PTT (push-to-talk) interface is 2.5mm. Considering the complexity of development, I bought a HEIL ham radio brand adapter cable, specifically the AD-1-iHT. The following diagram shows:
When purchasing, the seller stated that this adapter was compatible with their brand's BM-17iC headphones (around 1300 yuan), but after receiving them, I realized that the BM-17iC were quite expensive. Thinking that regular headsets would also work, I bought it anyway. However, it turned out to be a mistake...
After inserting it, I encountered a persistent problem with constant transmission. This means that the cable order of the AD-1-iHT adapter is different from the standard headset cable, and the price of the adapter itself is also relatively high. This video explains that by using an AD-1-iHT adapter cable and adding a matching cable, the problem can be solved. The theory is sound, but in practice, I found that the video doesn't provide specific wiring instructions. After trying different combinations, I discovered that the best result was when the microphone connected successfully, but it produced a severe buzzing noise. The other options either worked intermittently or not at all.
So, I'd like to ask everyone for examples of successful modifications. What was the process for reordering the wires? Or did you choose to purchase models like the BM-17iC instead?
