Here are some suggestions for the Yaesu 500d: It's not necessary to buy this, and you'll need to consult the manual to set it up. The screen isn't very large, and a color display isn't essential. The spectrum is only slightly better than the QuanSheng K6, and the digital mode depends on how many people in your area use it; otherwise, you can only use MMDVM. It's much cheaper to get the DM9100 instead. The Yaesu 500d is actually just attractive looking, and its long case isn't very good as a base station.
