Personal experience:
- Try to avoid making significant modifications, in case you ever want to sell the car, dismantle the radio, or replace it.
- Keep a spare set of coax cable and power cables on hand for easy disassembly: When disassembling the radio, simply remove the radio and antenna, leaving the cables attached to the vehicle. To reassemble, just connect the cables back in place.
Antenna
Suggested cable selection-3Coarse and fine, coarse ones are difficult to drill through, and fine ones cause a lot of wear.
- Simple Method 1: Place the suction cup on either side of the rear trunk lid, then slide it directly into the gap between the trunk and the car body. Continue sliding it in until it reaches the front.
- Simple Mode 2: Same as above, but with the front cover. Note that some areas have police restrictions on antenna placement in the front, and some newer cars have complex wiring configurations that make it difficult to install the antenna yourself; you may need to hire a professional installer.
- Difficult mode: Drilling through the roof.
Unlike shortwave, an U-segment antenna doesn't require such high specifications. In most cases, the existing ground wire is sufficient, and a separate ground network isn't necessary. If you happen to have a dipole or similar antenna, you can adjust it based on your measurements. If not, you can borrow one from a friend instead of buying one specifically.
If you are concerned about children messing with it, consider purchasing a security lock.
Take power
- Simple mode: Buy or make a cigarette lighter and use it to power a device. A 25W device cannot be powered this way. The disadvantage is that the device falls off when it turns off.
- Difficult Mode: Directly connected to the car battery. Some cars can be wired by themselves, while others require professional installation. The advantage is that it can still work even after the car shuts off. The disadvantage is that you need to set a timer for automatic shutdown, otherwise, if you forget to turn it off, you will have to call roadside assistance for a jump start.
Fixed radio frequency
The power cord and feeder cable should be buried under the floor. Make sure to secure the exposed portion with tape or similar material to prevent tripping.
- Simple Mode 1: Small size, doesn't take up much space, just place it somewhere and be careful not to hit anyone when braking suddenly.
- Simple Mode 2: Attach it to the front using adhesive film. Note: 1. Make sure it is securely fixed to prevent injury; 2. When running power and signal cables, do not route them through the area of the airbag, as this could create a sharp edge; 3. Be mindful of sun protection.
- Non-simple mode: Fixed by drilling.
