I was considering building my own handheld radio receiver, and a relatively low-cost option would be a zero-center frequency tuner plus a sound card codec. However, the popular MSI001 has been discontinued and is now selling for several hundred yuan per piece, so it's not an option. The only one I could find was the RDA5815S, which I saw at the科创 fair a few years ago, but it only covers up to 250MHz. If I wanted to receive shortwave, I would also need to consider using a down-converter, which would make the design more complex.
I had previously considered using a low-to-medium frequency tuner like the R820T, along with a high-speed ADC and an AG32 with its built-in CPLD, for digital down-conversion. However, in recent months, even the R820T has become quite expensive, costing tens of dollars per unit, which is really frustrating.
