At that time, I was frequently visiting a small shop that specialized in selling ham leg attachments. I also purchased some diamonds and Hua Hong products (diamond antennas and Hua Hong products were available after the 2011 Ham Union event organized by the three provinces of Ping'an Mountain Head, which involved clearing out inventory from Guan Zhang). This resulted in some less comprehensive comparisons.
The results showed that when using the same parameters, such as connecting to a specific repeater, multiple diamonds exhibited relatively stable performance. This means that multiple diamonds of the same model, when connected to the same repeater, had similar signal strengths; at least, based on my detection conditions at the time, I could not distinguish between them. However, when using Hua Hong, the parameters between multiple diamonds of the same model were significantly different. In an industrial setting, this difference might be referred to as "dispersion," meaning that some diamonds had better signal strength while others had weaker ones, and the differences were quite noticeable. So, how do the diamonds and Hua Hong compare? The higher-performing Hua Hong did not underperform compared to the diamonds, and in some cases, even outperformed them slightly (at a specific frequency), but overall, there were still differences.
Specifically, if you are certain about which frequency (e.g., a specific repeater) you want to use, then you can test a batch of Hua Hong units of the same model and identify several that perform well (approximately 20%). However, if you buy Diamond units, testing is not necessary; any unit will be roughly equivalent in performance.
I often use a joke to illustrate this point:
If you buy a small Japanese tractor and its specifications allow it to pull up to 1 ton, then you can pull any weight below that without worrying about it breaking; however, if you try to pull 1.5 tons, it is likely to break down this time.
If you buy a domestically produced tractor, its specifications are also 1 ton. Even if you only pull 5 tons occasionally, it shouldn't be damaged. However, even if you only pull half a ton each time, there's a chance it could still break down next time.
