It's supposed to be an aftermarket version, focusing on affordability. I haven't used Wouxun before, so I wasn't sure if it was genuine. The volume could get distorted at high levels. However, the modulation/demodulation performance is excellent, and the sound quality is very good. It's significantly better than the GT12P.
I tested it out today, and found that buildings in town are interfering. The maximum range is about 2 km. On the other side, there are fewer obstructions, and I was able to hear clear voice communication using a 518 antenna at a distance of 4 km.
The handheld radio is connected to the 770H antenna via a 5-meter cable, which is mounted on the roof of the second floor. The actual power output at the antenna is 4.5 watts, while the handheld radio itself has an output of 6.x watts.
