The ARISS "Celebrating ARISS 2024" SSTV activity just ended a few days ago. I wonder if you, my fellow operators, have successfully decoded the SSTV images and obtained the electronic certificates from the Space Station website? In addition to uploading your successful SSTV images to the Space Station website to obtain electronic certificates, you can also send a QSL card to the ground station of the Space Station to exchange physical cards!
I received a QSL card from the space station in late November last year. I had planned to write about my experience of sending and receiving QSL cards as a post to share with everyone, but at that time I was busy interviewing at various railway bureaus within the school, so I didn't have enough time to do so. Later, I discovered friendly contacts within the station. @BH4HZD I also wrote a similar post, which was very detailed, so I won't repeat myself excessively. You can find it through the link below.
Wormhole:How to obtain a QSL card from ARISS (the International Space Station amateur radio station)
So, in this post, I mainly want to introduce you to…How to properly mail an international letter to obtain a QSL card for the International Space StationWhat about this?
If you have never sent an international letter before, and are simply acting on a whim like I did when I wanted to exchange cards with ARISS, then sending this letter might be challenging. However, based on my own experience of successfully sending letters, I will explain the process from...Methods for obtaining IRC、Specifications and writing format for outgoing and return envelopes. And alsoThings to keep in mind when mailing at the post office.I would like to introduce this to you. If there are any inaccuracies, please let me know.
That... the main film begins!
Ways to obtain IRC
International Return Coupon(IRC)is a standard used by the Universal Postal Union (UPU).(UPU)A ticket that can be used across all member networks.Holders of IRC for any country can exchange it for postage equivalent to the minimum cost of sending a regular airmail letter abroad in each member country., in mainland China, the price of an IRC is12 yuanDue to the relatively low number of people using them domestically, you may not find IRCs readily available at your local post office. However, you can inquire at your local post office; a helpful employee might be able to assist you in obtaining one (I would like to specifically commend the employees at the Jinan Seven Ridge Post and Telecommunications Branch for their assistance in applying for 10 IRCs). If you are unable to find them locally, you can also purchase them online. Search for "international reply vouchers" on major e-commerce platforms, and you will find relevant results.2(Minimum required quantity for ARISS)
Please note:If you choose to purchase IRC online, be sure to buy it from a reputable source.Latest versionThe voucher, we recommend that you inquire with customer service beforehand before placing your order to confirm its validity.Validity periodThe current version has a validity period ofDecember 31, 2025Purchasing expired old-version reply coupons may result in you not receiving a reply card!

Specifications and writing format for outgoing and return envelopes.
When you have all the materials ready and see international envelopes that are completely different from domestic ones, do you feel a bit overwhelmed? In this section, I will explain how to choose both outgoing and return envelopes, as well as their writing formats.
ARISS requires that your QSL card, a reply envelope, and at least 2 IRCs be included in the letter you send. Based on experience, you can choose which envelope to use for sending.International Envelope No. 7, while the choice of return envelopeInternational Envelope No. 5Okay.
The format for writing on envelope (number 7)
First, you need to mail the card to the nearest card office in Japan, which is located in Toyohama Ward, Tokyo. The specific address is as follows:
ARISS Japan QSL card
JARL International Section
Otsuka HT Building
3-43-1 Minamiotsuka
Toshima-ku
Tokyo 170-8073
JAPAN
You need to write the address exactly as it appears on the envelope when sending the letter.Bottom right cornerPlease note that the Japanese country name "JAPAN" at the very bottom needs to be included.ALL CAPSAlso, it would be best to write the above address in Chinese on top of this string of addresses. "Sent to Japan" This makes it easier for domestic postal workers to sort your mail.
You can also choose to write your return address and postal code on the envelope.Top left cornerYou can also choose to write it on the envelope.Back(This sets the stage), and you will decide on this yourself. Also, please make sure that the full name of "P.R. CHINA" is written in all capital letters under the address of the sender. You can use your address in Chinese characters.
The image below shows the address I wrote on the envelope for the recipient, which you can use for reference:

CHINA" in all capital letters under the address, and the name of China above the address in English. "To P.R. China" This is also to make it easier for postal workers in Japan to sort your mail.
The reply envelope only requires you to fill in the information above, and nothing else.No action required.Once finished writing, place it along with other materials.Go to 信信封Once sealed properly, it's good to go.
Due to the fact that my return envelope in the image contains my personal address, which I am unable to share, I have blurred it. However, I will provide you with a similar virtual address for your reference:

Things to keep in mind when mailing at the post office.
Everything is ready, and you can finally go to the post office to mail your card! However, before you leave, please note the following:
1. Choose the appropriate post office.
If you are sending your first international letter and want to avoid delays due to lost packages, we recommend that you ship it beforeNational Postal Service PortalBefore visiting the website, check in advance whether the post office closest to you is open.International businessThis allows you to maximize your time on the road.

2. Shipping costs
In general, international airmail sent from within China to Japan...UnsignedShipping costs are5 yuan,Registration letterShipping costs are21 yuan(Based on information obtained from the China Post website), when I mentioned writing the sender's address on the envelope earlier, there was a hint of what was coming: because if you choose to send a registered letter, the postage of around 20 yuan may cause most of the front of your envelope to be "occupied" by the stamp (as shown in the figure). At this point, if you write the address on the left upper corner of the envelope, it is very likely that the stamp will not be enough, which would create an awkward situation... Therefore, you need to choose the location for writing your address based on the postage and the number of stamps.

At this point, you have completed all the necessary preparations. The postal worker has already stamped your envelope with a black postmark, and your QSL card is about to be shipped to Japan, our neighboring country, where it will hopefully arrive safely. Two weeks laterYour letter will be delivered to the card office by the postal worker, and then...Approximately two weeks, you will receive a QSL card from the International Space Station. I look forward to hearing from you soon! Thank you for visiting this page. I hope that my experience, whether it's exchanging QSL cards with ARISS or communicating with other foreign friends, can be helpful to you. This isBG4JGBHere's your 73!
