If the compass is inaccurate, keep a safe distance from large metal objects and use your phone to draw the eight characters several times to calibrate it. Make sure you have updated the latest star chart (and verify that the update was successful). As for the spinning motion, try looking at different landmarks. It could be due to poor satellite signal, incorrect antenna polarization, or interference from other nearby stations. Try tuning in and comparing with other stations to determine the cause.
