The peak of the Perseid meteor shower has passed, and 2024 is drawing to a close. Although there are still two weeks left, I have no further plans, so today I am writing a summary for a new hamster in 2024.
As a newbie, I accomplished many firsts this year:
First linear star
On March 22nd, through collaboration with@bg7xwf I had planned ahead and successfully used the U7V4 with the 991+ JYR's license to establish a simplex connection in SSB voice mode. Previously, I hadn't acted on this because I heard that operating with linear FM was complicated and required duplex communication. However, after this successful attempt, I also considered simulating GC packets on RS44, but I haven't tried it yet (although someone has recently succeeded).It turned out that the operation was indeed complicated and best done with two-way communication, so after this initial connection, I didn't need to connect again.

First EME
On the afternoon of May 12th, I successfully completed EME (Earth-Moon Earth), using the Moon as a passive reflector approximately 38,000 kilometers away to transmit radio waves to the other side of the Earth, and established two-way contact with HB9Q in Switzerland. I was incredibly excited and surprised by this achievement. After automatically activating the amateur satellite, the term "EME" began to appear frequently. Successfully completing an EME is a remarkable experience. To achieve this, I started preparing from December last year, including testing the feed system, testing the LNA (Low Noise Amplifier), testing the antenna setup environment, and simulating approximately 5 attempts. I would like to thank BD8AIS for assisting me in the testing process. The day before the successful QSO on May 11th was originally scheduled for sked (scheduled contact), but due to rain, it failed. Therefore, on May 12th afternoon, I went out prepared to continue until evening, and fortunately, I successfully made contact. On the evening of May 13th, with clear weather, I set up the antenna again and successfully contacted NC1I in North America.

During the ARRL EME Contest on November 17-18, I also participated and set up a two-Yagi antenna array, but unfortunately, due to weather conditions, it was unsuccessful.

First experience with 6-meter waveband connectivity
As spring turned into summer, the E-layer began to become active, and propagation at 6 meters started to be relatively stable and long-range. On May 17th, I experienced 6 meters for the first time, which coincided with the opening of the 6-meter band, with many stations and strong signals. First meteor debris(MS)
I had heard about MS for a long time, but I missed the Perseid meteor shower in August of this year because I was on vacation at home. So, when the Geminids meteor shower came in December, I started preparing early. On December 13th, I went out to my remote location around 8 PM and stayed until 11 PM, but there was no signal throughout the time. The combination of wind and rain, with the biting cold, made me shiver. When I was about to pack up and go back to my dorm, I suddenly decoded a red message. After struggling for 20 minutes, I successfully completed a QSO (50.260 MSK144 T/R15) with BG7NF using a homemade three-element Yagi antenna.

In addition to this, IO-117 completed a total of 159 QSOs before its decommissioning. R.I.P.
