If you are a HAM (amateur radio operator) who doesn't have shortwave equipment, or hasn't yet obtained your B license, and you want to experience (to some extent) real shortwave communication, you might try this software: Morse Runner.

Morse Runner is an open-source tool written in Delphi by VE3NEA. http://www.dxatlas.com/MorseRunner/ ), aimed at providing a simulated CW mode for beginners (including those planning to participate in WWX). All the radio chatter you hear is software-simulated, and you'll experience the feeling of frantically trying to decipher the Morse code amidst the static noise.
However, the software simplifies the process for using UniNet: users do not need to manually dispatch calls using an external switch; instead, they can simply click a few buttons to: report the call sign they hear, exchange signal reports, and enter the call sign provided by the other party, as well as record the QSO information.

I had previously come across a more advanced simulation radio service (hamsphere.com), which claimed to be "a highly realistic shortwave simulation based on SDR," even simulating propagation using physical characteristics such as Earth topography, atmosphere, solar flares, and flux index, with antennas also modeled using electromagnetic simulation. It was even possible to purchase plugins to upgrade functionality, acquire equipment or antennas (in-app purchases detected!). I haven't tried it myself, so please use it at your own risk, while complying with local laws and regulations.
