Parks on the Air® (POTA) It is a continuous, global HAM (amateur radio) activity plan. This plan is more than just an amateur radio communication event; it's a comprehensive platform for skill development, community building, and public education.
Its core philosophy is to encourage amateur radio operators to continuously hone their professional skills, and to enable amateur radio enthusiasts to leave the high-power environment of their homes and enjoy the pleasures of outdoor activities. Furthermore, it provides opportunities for amateur radio enthusiasts to conduct outdoor communication activities, allowing them to showcase their passion and dedication to radio to the general public.
Furthermore, POTA also emphasized the importance of emergency awareness and communication in emergency situations, allowing participants to not only enjoy the fun of radio communication but also learn practical emergency communication skills.
The POTA activity provides thousands of parks with diverse landscapes around the world, serving as venues for this event. Each park offers amateur radio enthusiasts a unique and challenging space for exploration. The seasonal changes in each park add further layers to these experiences, making every communication event full of surprises and excitement.
When talking about the origins of POTA, we need to trace it back to early 2017. At that time, ARRL (the American Radio Relay League) held a special event called "National Parks on the Air." After the event, a group of enthusiastic volunteers wanted to continue this fun. It was this passion and dedication to amateur radio that led to the creation of Parks on the Air®. (POTA) The origin of this project.
In line with the IOTA (Island of Radio Expeditions) philosophy, POTA also aims to encourage amateur radio enthusiasts to connect with park stations around the world. This is not only a form of technical exchange, but also a means of cultural dissemination and integration.
It is worth noting that, prior to this, parks in mainland China and Hong Kong were not yet included in this global initiative. Through extensive coordination and effort, the scope of POTA has now successfully expanded to include areas in China (including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan). As relevant park information continues to be refined, parks in China (including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) have officially joined the global POTA plan, becoming an integral part of this community. This not only provides more opportunities for Chinese radio enthusiasts to showcase and connect, but also further promotes the development and prosperity of global radio culture.
