I recently participated in the Class B radio validation event organized by Area 1, and just passed the exam. Taking advantage of a promotional offer from the retailer, I purchased a G90N. The store was out of stock, so I ordered directly from XieGu, and I've been eagerly waiting for it to arrive for 5 days!

Inside the box, you'll find the host unit, microphone, data cable, serial extension cable, user manual, a power cord that is thick enough for even 100-watt machines, and a small six-point wrench.

When I saw other HAMs using similar machines online, they seemed quite large. However, in reality, many were smaller than expected and surprisingly well-made with excellent detail work.

I recently built a set of 12V iron lithium batteries, and I'm using them now. After turning it on and testing it out, I find that it looks even better than I expected, and the buttons are much smaller than I thought.

Before purchasing, I had already heard that the radio has three plastic knobs, which can become greasy over time. While the volume and multi-function controls are decent, the operation of the knob is not very convenient. This led to the idea of replacing the knobs. The first one I replaced was the tuning knob, as it fit perfectly, didn't extend beyond the frame, and didn't obscure the text.

I initially thought I could just replace the tuning knobs, but then I decided to replace both the aluminum alloy knobs and the remaining plastic knobs as well, so that everything would look uniform and consistent.

After replacing the visual and tactile components, I feel much better. The tuning is smoother, the operation is more convenient, and I think I could sell it for an additional 1000 yuan.

Finally, let's share the two types of G90 knob parameter settings. HAMs who need them can refer to this. There are 1.5 diameter hexagonal fixing screws on the side of the knobs, used to fix the rotary encoder shaft of the radio. If you don't have a corresponding hexagonal wrench, a 6-point wrench or similar flathead screwdriver can also be used. When tightening, align the screw with the center gap of the encoder shaft and tighten it. This will improve concentricity. Remember not to press the knob all the way down during installation; lift it up by about 2mm instead, otherwise it will affect the encoder's operation.
