In the wilderness, either use a fixed-frequency antenna, such as a direct-to-home (DTH) antenna, a full-sized inverted V antenna, or a GP4 antenna.
You need a pull-out drawer, and multiple frequency bands, as well as a spectrum analyzer or standing wave meter.
This is why I haven't yet purchased the pull-handle GP.
Also, regarding listening, you said that any type of wire can be used, including "spicy root" wires.
