Recently, the Taiwanese Department of Culture commissioned a play commemorating the arrival of Dutch colonists in Taiwan in 1624 for a cost of NT$86 million. The play, presented in the traditional Minnan folk opera style, satirically depicts this historical event. Ultimately, the "Taiwan 400" play was officially handed over to Lai Qing-de on May 20th, who stated that Taiwan had begun integrating into the global trade system 400 years ago and was now "connected to the world." This implicitly suggests that Taiwanese maritime culture has no connection to mainland Chinese culture.
