How do those of you who don't have outdoor balconies set up shortwave antennas?

Liridice

Have you considered using an antenna similar to the MA-01, which has a relatively short length and can be mounted on the outdoor unit of an air conditioner?

BA7KSH

The house is on the top floor and has a 20m antenna installed directly on the terrace.

BH4GQD

BA7KSH I'm incredibly envious.

BG7NOD

BI4PMQ Be careful that someone cuts your antenna.😜

BG5BLI

The DP antenna has a clothes drying rack attached to one end, and a window handle attached to the other. With a 10-meter band, I could theoretically communicate with anyone globally, including the US, UK, Russia, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina. It would be amazing!

BG5BQB

Currently, I'm using a direct connection setup: one end is attached to an anchor point on the wall, and the other end is tied to a tree below. I also use a separate transmit and receive system. A horizontal K-180 antenna is mounted, connected to the radio's RX-Only input. The small loop antenna has good interference resistance, which seems to improve the signal-to-noise ratio, and its receiving capability may even be better than the direct connection setup? The portion of the spectrum plot obtained using FT8 shows a small loop in the upper half and a downlink in the lower half, which clearly indicates an improved signal-to-noise ratio.

dxs660

I recommend using the triangular LOOP antenna shown in Figure Two. I have replaced the antenna in the image with a 1:1 scale Bralen, and the cable length is 300/frequency.（MHZ）On both sides, with maximum efficiency, the primary radiation direction is perpendicular to the triangle, similar to how your fishing rod points north and south, while the primary radiation direction is east and west.

BH3XZT

dxs660 This configuration has a problem.
The lower part of the structure is clearly made of insulating material, and it is not suitable for areas with strong winds. The weight can be affected by wind, which could damage the support pole.

BI7KHZ

BG9CHE Do you have a picture? I would like to see it for reference.

HonTa

BH3FVJ The outdoor unit of the air conditioner isn't by the window, right? That's also the case with my house. It's located inside the exterior wall of the building.

BG9CHE

@BI7KHZ I'll take some pictures from my position, and I have two advantages there: the space between the buildings is large, and the building opposite is about 100 meters away; also, it has good visibility in both directions, with no obstructions. The main impact is that there's an electric vehicle charging station on the ground floor, which means that the low-frequency noise is generally above S9 after noon.

BI7KHZ

[未知用户] The space here is also over 100 meters, but the air conditioner unit is located on the exterior wall of the building. The room faces south (and is located in the southernmost part of the Pearl River Delta, so I'm not sure if it can be connected to most parts of the country).

BH9FPK

Let's take a look at this. https://www.douyin.com/root/search/%E9%98%B3%E5%8F%B0gp4?aid=6eeeb7b7-4998-4163-86f0-4877e6752b90&modal_id = 6958732320975228164&type = general

BI7KHZ

BH9FPK The person known as BG7PNV was actually Mr. Ye, a legendary figure.

BH9FPK

BI7KHZ Teacher Ye's antenna.

BI1VLM

Extend the cable to the ground floor; use outdoor antennas, with lengths of 80-60 meters, which provides good concealment.

BI3BGM

slchy This probably wouldn't be a good projectile, as there are steel reinforcements inside the wall, which would likely provide shielding.

slchy

BI3BGM Yes, it's definitely a transitional solution.

BH7DAO

slchy A purely indoor antenna!😀

BH3XZT

What do you think of this method? (The green line in Figure 2 has already been marked with a rope.)
The length of the fishing rod is 6.3 meters; if you remove the first two sections, it will be approximately 5 meters.
