Have you ever experienced a situation where, while working on 2m/6m DX (long-distance communication), the band suddenly opens up, but you're completely unaware of it? Later, you realize that you missed a great opportunity; or, while using FT8, you suddenly need to go to the bathroom, but you can't bring yourself to stop for even a minute, and you want to know which stations were communicating during that time...
WsjtxWatcher, in turn, provides a solution to these problems. This software utilizes the built-in UDP server function of Wsjtx (or JTDX, referred to as wsjtx below), enabling interaction with wsjtx data. Users can view real-time FT8 information within the software and set corresponding alerts that send notifications or vibrations to remind you when your transmissions are active or when rare DXCC stations appear. You can also run the software in the background while using other applications, or even have it function normally even when the screen is locked, providing relevant information to you.
It is worth noting that, while the software also provides some basic interactive functions (terminating transmission, re-decoding, clearing logs), these functions are not available or only partially available in older versions of wsjtx. Since the primary purpose of developing the software was to provide a simple FT8 monitoring solution on Android platforms, the software does not support more complex features such as changing transmission cycles or frequency bands. To perform such operations, you would need to return to the wsjtx end to operate, or use remote desktop.
Instructions for Use
(First, make sure that the computer running wsjtx and your phone are on the same local network, for example, connected to the same Wi-Fi!)
Click on the menu in the top right corner to access the settings page. On the settings page, enter your call sign and Maidenhead grid coordinates, and modify other settings as needed. Please note down the IP address and port number displayed on the settings page.(Please ensure that you perform the relevant actions according to the instructions at the bottom of the settings interface, otherwise information may not be delivered!)
After returning to the main interface, click "Enable Service" in the top-right menu again.
