What problem does the grid solve?
Replace the issue of reporting latitude and longitude with a large number of characters (primarily QRP and CW signal strength).
Why do we need to provide latitude and longitude?
Previously, when specifying a location in a less well-known city, it was necessary to consult paper maps to determine the relative positions of both parties. It was more convenient and accurate to simply provide the latitude and longitude coordinates. This avoids the difficulty of finding the relevant map.
Current status:
Electronic maps are now widely available, allowing you to easily look up cities and instantly find distances.
In some large cities or cities with narrow, elongated layouts, a single grid may not be sufficient; in such cases, you need to check the specific grid where the location is situated.
The grid still holds value in automated communication and CW (Continuous Wave) fields, with the number of digits in the Shenzhen and Grid codes being approximately equal.
