Attempting EME communication; the first contact is expected to be completed by the end of this month.
Two locations were tested, and both showed good noise floor levels. On the 20-meter band in USB mode, with S4–S5 noise floors, strong EME signals from powerful stations could still be received.
Antenna: A homemade 14-element Yagi for the 2-meter band, with a boom length of 8.7 meters and a gain of 14 dBd.
Transceiver: IC-910H.
Software: WSJT‑9.
During the first attempt, simply switching frequencies allowed me to hear and see JT65B audio on the waterfall display. I received I2FAK at -25 dBm, while he received me at -30 dBm but was unable to decode.
The second time, at the park, I randomly contacted OK1UGA (whose antenna has a cumulative boom length of 40 meters and operates at 1.5 kW—extremely powerful). I received him at -21 dBm, very strong.
I also picked up my old friend I2FAK, whose 16×19-element array ranks among the strongest EME station sites worldwide. Receiving him at -16 dBm, I could clearly hear the JT65B tones coming through his station—truly impressive!
