Simply powering it with a dry cell battery works, of course. However, once you press the PTT (Push-To-Talk) button, the internal resistance of the battery becomes significant, and the result is that the battery can't provide enough power... Frankly, I'm too afraid to try.
I previously observed it using a radio power supply; when not transmitting, the power consumption was only 1W, but when transmitting at 25W, the power consumption was approximately 120W.
