I recently purchased an ICOM IC-910H radio, and it has some issues with the screen. I haven't found any helpful repair guides specifically for this model in Chinese forums. However, I found a repair guide on Bing International Edition that was written by someone who fixed an Italian ham radio, so I followed their instructions. I also wanted to update the forum with my progress and ask for advice from other experienced users.I hope it doesn't break down.
The cause of the failure
1) Partial display: After checking, I found that the 910 uses an LCD segmented display. It connects the screen to the PCB of the panel using conductive rubber (commonly known as "zebra stripes"). The partial display is caused by the aging and shrinkage of the conductive rubber, leading to a decrease in its conductivity. Based on foreign experience, he cleaned the conductive rubber with isopropyl alcohol and cleaned the PCB contacts with cleaning solution, which restored normal operation.
2) Small viewing angle: According to one expert, a small viewing angle is caused by the aging of the polarizing film, so I need to remove the old polarizing film from the screen and replace it with a new one. After searching online, it seems that there may be some relationship with the display not being complete (?), but I'm getting more and more confused, so I'll just replace the polarizing film first.
3) Buttons are unresponsive: I noticed some unresponsive buttons that seemed to be corroded or damaged in some way. I'm not sure what the cause of the problem is, but I first repaired the screen. According to one expert, electroplating with silver is necessary for a perfect repair.

Next, we'll start disassembling it. First, remove the screws on the top and bottom covers to detach them. Note: When removing the top cover, first lift it slightly and disconnect the speaker wires before removing it, otherwise you may damage the speaker jacks on the motherboard.
Then, remove the screws connecting the host and the panel, disconnect the cables, and remove the panel.
After removing the bottom panel, loosen the screws between the outer shell and the PCB of the panel, disconnect the cables, and then remove the bottom panel PCB.
This allows you to see the screen.
Carefully remove the retaining clips for the fixed screen from behind the motherboard, being careful not to scratch the PCB. This will allow you to obtain the entire screen and also see the conductive rubber.
Use a toothbrush to apply the previously applied isopropanol solution, then scrub the conductive rubber. After allowing it to evaporate naturally, reassemble the screen according to the repair manual. Note: Do not install it upside down; make sure to wipe off any remaining isopropanol solution on the screen.
After following the original steps to assemble and power on, there was both good news and bad news. The good news was that the screen worked normally. The bad news was that some parts of the screen still didn't display anything. I emailed the Italian ham supplier to inquire about this, and they confirmed that the PCB cleaning contacts were missing.
