The Yaesu radios are generally fine; you just need to remove one component from inside the battery compartment, which has a rubber cover. However, there are three main drawbacks that make this method not recommended:
1. Violating working hours outside of regular business hours – this should be obvious.
2. To do this yourself, you will need a precision soldering iron with two tips, which can cost several hundred yuan or more.
3. Loss of warranty, and RF performance beyond the specified frequency range cannot be guaranteed (primarily due to scattering).
I occasionally need to coordinate with others using the ID52, which is compatible with the 409 MHz band. Considering this, I purchased a Xiaomi handheld radio that uses public frequencies and doesn't require a license. The main reason for this was to avoid any unnecessary complications for myself.
