Well... I seem to have caused some confusion for the participants.
Previously, all practice was done on the aircraft simulator, and I had never used CW (continuous wave) communication. My last practice session was about a month ago, using MorseRunner at 30 WPM, which allowed me to achieve approximately 35 QSOs in 15 minutes.
This time, I chose a new location. Initially, I planned to use the 15m band, but the noise level was too high, so I switched to the 10m band. (I only realized that the opposite side was a park's electric vehicle charging station when more than half of the competition had passed.)
Overall, it felt like most people were typing at around 30-35 WPM, with only a few above 40 WPM. However, if you're just scanning, and using the N1MM assistant check, it's not as difficult to transcribe.
I tried running it for a while, but being cautious, I set it to 20 WPM. Two stations responded, and they also adjusted their speeds accordingly.
As for broadcasting, I haven't been transmitting for two months... I assumed the competition would be very lively, but I couldn't find any stations on the frequency. The spot readings seemed to indicate more activity, but when I tried to tune in, I couldn't hear anything. Just saw a post from XWF mentioning that 10 meters is terrible for propagation, and it wasn't as bad as I thought...
When first using CW mode, the QSB effect is very strong. Sometimes, when calling out the call sign, it's still quite strong, but then it weakens when announcing the sequence number. However, don't panic. Try to ask AGN or NR twice? If that doesn't work, you can wait.
The final session lasted approximately 3 hours, with 28 QSOs (contacts). I'll try it out and continue practicing if I have more time later.
