To prepare for the "Sixth CRAC Wireless Technology Exhibition and Exchange Conference on Amateur Radio Emergency Communication and Direction Finding Exercise" to be held in Chengdu in 2024, the Jinan City Amateur Radio Association commissioned the Yellow River Amateur Radio Relay Station Service Group to hold a direction-finding training exercise on Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17. The first direction-finding training exercise was held on March 16, with members of the Linqing City Amateur Radio Association and BH4PRD President attending to provide guidance.
"Radio direction finding," also known as "radio fox hunting," is a sport that falls under the category of technology-based sports. The equipment used in this sport is a "radio direction finder," which uses radio signals to determine the location of hidden radio transmitters based on principles such as triangulation. Participants need to have knowledge of radio technology and good physical fitness, making it an interesting and engaging radio sport.
This wireless communication training exercise was organized by the Jinan City Amateur Radio Association, with the Yellow River Amateur Radio Relay Station as the organizer. It was open to all amateur radio enthusiasts in the city. Many of the participants were first-time attendees of this type of activity, but everyone showed great interest. Some participants actively prepared for the event, bringing along drawing boards and compasses among other equipment needed for the competition. The training exercise went very smoothly, and most participants successfully located the hidden radio stations. One particular station on 144 MHz was cleverly concealed, high up in a tree, which took everyone a long time to find. Several adorable children also participated in the event with their parents, adding a unique element to the training exercise.
This learning and training exercise provided everyone with an opportunity to practice their surveying skills, learn surveying knowledge, and prepare for the Chengdu competition.
It also opened up a new direction for amateur radio activities in Jinan, and I believe that more directional finding activities and competitions will be organized in the future, allowing everyone to learn knowledge, exercise, and enrich the leisure life of amateur radio enthusiasts in Jinan, making their lives more colorful and diverse.
